Diamond Electronics

E-mail Print PDF

This webpage is designed to be a schedule and resource for photographers/artists who are exhibiting at Diamond Electronics for the Brookings ArtWalk which is held the second Saturday of each month from 4-7pm.

Displaying art at Diamond Electronics via their incredible wide screen displays can be a very rewarding experience for both the artist and the art viewer. Take advantage of this venue. Contact Jim Coffee today and be placed onto the Diamond Electronics Artwalk Schedule.

Diamond Electronics is located just north of the theater in Brookings.
P.O. Box 1355, Brookings, OR 97415
541-469-7518
Owned by operated by Ken Streacker (ken@diamondtelecom.com).
Staffed by D.J. (dj@diamondtelecom.com).

Diamond Electronics is in the business of selling and installing home entertainment centers, including large screen televisions. They are located in a mini-mall/office complex. There is space outside their door in a common area in which the exhibiting artist can set up a table with prints for sale. Diamond Electronics benefits because of the traffic into their store.

Here is how photographers/artists should proceed:

  • About 2 weeks before the Artwalk visit Diamond Electronics. Have your artwork/photographs with you on a laptop PC. Call to schedule a convenient time (541-469-7518).
  • Either Ken or DJ will connect your laptop into their system and your work will display on one of the large screens. The screen/s will be functioning as if they were a PC Monitor.
  • If you have more than one laptop bring it also. The more laptops that you bring the more screens that your work will be able to be viewed on.
  • Your images should include more than your artwork. You can include detail close-ups, sequences that show how you accomplished something, a photograph of your studio, your bio, etc. Let your imagination loose. Create a good show!
  • On the day of the artwalk bring work to display/sell in the common space just outside the Diamond Electronics showroom. A table is available. Perhaps you can display inside Diamond Electronics. Discuss this with Ken/D.J. on your initial trip.
  • Appetizers will be provided by Diamond Electronics. The exhibiting artist will be asked to provide the White Wine. Please include this in your preliminary discussions.

2007

  • December 8, 2007, Linda Marshall
  • November 10th, 2007, Dew Scott Brady
  • October 13, 2007: Jim Coffee
note from Jim: All went well this time. I displayed images optimized to 1024 x 768 x 72 using PowerPoint. Art Walker's enjoyed the presentation...as did I.
  • September 8, 2007: Mureen Walker
note from Mureen: I was pleased with the all the slide shows going on at once. Very fun and at least as good as expected, and better! I put so much time and energy into getting that happening the way I wanted it to that I didn't get all the sales products properly presented.
  • August 11, 2007, Virginia Babbit
note: I visited Virginia's exhibit. She had several PC's running images. She had her work displayed in Diamond Electronics, not outside in the corridor. The images and display looked great.
  • July 14, 2007. Jim Coffee. 541-247-9779.
note: This attempt failed. The images did not display correctly. We attempted to display the images played on a DVD (for TV) slideshow.

It should be noted that at this time (6 August 2007) DVD's don't seem to work well within the Diamond Electronics configuration. That is why you are being asked to bring your work on a laptop. Your laptop should be equipped with the Windows Picture and Fax viewer (which comes with the operating system). You will use the Windows Picture and Fax viewer software to show your slideshow.

Optionally you can use a free download called Irfanview (www.irfanview.com) or any number of other programs. Irfanview will actually create a stand alone slideshow application.

If you are working on a Mac I'm sure that there is an application that will show a slideshow. I'm not a Mac guy so don't know...but I'm confident that you Mac folks will know.

There are only 12 opportunities to exhibit electronically at the Brookings Art Walk each year. Please honor your commitment to your assigned date.

Please call me with issues or questions.

Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)
  • Just Posted! Olympus E-520 review
Just posted! Our review of the Olympus E-520. Olympus refreshed its upper-entry-level DSLR, the E-510, to include more focusing options in live view, a wider range of image stabilization modes and the addition of wireless flash control. Are these changes enough to keep the E-520 competitive in what has become a very crowded sector of the digital camera market?
  • Olympus announces FE-370 and FE-360
Olympus has announced the addition of FE-370 and FE-360 to its current range of FE series digital compacts. Both the 8.0MP cameras have all the basic features you would expect such as Face Detection, Image Stabilization, a number of shooting modes, video capture etc. The FE-370 has a slightly larger LCD size of 2.7” compared to the FE-360’s 2.5”. The former also has a larger optical zoom of 5x (36-180mm equiv) compared to FE-360’s 3x optical zoom (36-108mm equiv).
